Narcolepsy in the News: Narcolepsy article from CNN Health

For those of you who might be interested, here is a one page article on Narcolepsy from CNN Health.  It does a very good job of describing the basics of Narcolepsy, while also incorporating the experience of a Narcoleptic.

P.S.  If in the future, anyone finds an article on Narcolepsy that they think would be interesting to readers, please feel free to pass it on to me, either in the comments section or via e-mail.  That would be much appreciated Smile.

  1. This is a great article... thanks for sharing it. It is good to know that I am not the only one dealing with this. I came across a great website,, which offers advice about coping with narcolepsy.

  2. You have posted here which is very delightful to me especial American History, Commentary, Defense, Editorial, History, Military, Security, Society, Thoughts, War news is obtained in CNN. So, It is beneficial news for me..

  3. In regards to Adderall, it hasn't helped with my N. I take it and then go back to sleep. I can't get my Drs to believe me though. I'm 39 and have been on literally every anti-depression med there is, Literally! I'm dreading going back to the sleep Dr cuz I get really tired (no pun intended) of being a lab rat and trying every med known just to have them not work or make insomnia worse or sleeping too much worse. Really tired of drs and knowing more than they do about N which isn't that much. I've learned the most from your site and like that I don't feel as alone. Id post under something other than anonymous but I don't have one of those accounts. I hope I can still check for replies cuz I have a ? Does anyone have severe memory issues? I used to be smart as a whip, always a step ahead, multi tasker extraordinaire. Now I don't even remember if I brushed my teeth. Every test run and they can't find anything else to explain it. Any thoughts? Thanks

  4. Hi, if you are telling your sleep doctor that you are taking a medicine and then still feeling so tired that you are going back to bed and your one or multiple doctors don't believe you, then perhaps you should consider finding a new sleep doctor or neurologist? They are not all equally knowledgable about treating Narcolepsy... and you want someone who actually has had many other patients with Narcolepsy before and not someone who is a specialist in sleep apnea and other sleep breathing disorders (a pulmonologist they are called). (Many sleep doctors apparently are mostly specialists in sleep breathing disorders like sleep apnea). Here's a site you could use to find a great sleep center in you're area that is accredited by the american academy of sleep medicine: Next, don't give up on finding a medicine that will work! perhaps you will have to change the timing of when you take meds or short acting vs. long acting or take meds and also do the scheduled 15 to 20 minute naps I talk about on my site (and the scheduled part is ESSENTIAL). the memory issues are not a symptom of narcolepsy, but if you are in a fog because you are so sleepy, i can imagine that it might be hard to focus or concentrate and it would probably affect how "smart" you are feeling and you're whole life if you are severely tired... e-mail me at if you can't get an account but i don't usually give so much advice in comments... you can get help and feel good again! you can! and there are so many meds out there, but it's key to have a doctor who you can work with first.
